Hydraulic Specialist and Water Resources Engineer

Mr. Iftikhar Ahmad Wani, a distinguished Hydraulics Specialist and Water Resources Engineer, was born on 2nd of March 1963. He graduated in Civil Engineering from Regional Engineering College Srinagar (now NIT Srinagar) in the year 1985 and steadily advanced from Junior Engineer to Chief Engineer while serving in key engineering departments across the state. During his tenure in the Departments of Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control, Power Development, Economic Reconstruction Agency,Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA), and the Wular Conservation and Management Authority(WUCMA), hetook up challenging assignments and gained extensive experience in creation of hydraulic infrastructure and management of water resources. Mr. Wani has specialized in planning, design and execution of hydraulic structures such as flood control systems, water supply schemes, irrigation networks, reservoirs, sedimentation tanks, filtration plants, power generation systems, and urban drainage systems. His expertise extends to implementation of SCADA-based control systems, disaster management infrastructure and modern water treatment facilities reflecting a deep understanding of both the conventional as well as the advanced water engineering practices. His leadership has has helped shape critical water resource initiatives, ensuring reliable supply and flood resilience across diverse terrains of Jammu and Kashmir.

Complementing his technical expertise, Mr. Wani pursued advanced trainings in computer applications, unit hydrograph techniquesfor flood estimation and attended multiple workshops on Jal Jeevan Mission, organized by premier institutionsof India. These programs strengthened his capabilities in sustainable water resources development, environmental protection and application of innovative technologies to complex hydraulic challenges.

As Director Technical and Director Safeguards for the World Bankfunded Jhelum and Tawi Flood Recovery Project, Mr. Wani successfully delivered multi-disciplinary sub-projects such as urban flood management system, bridges, drainage networks besides modern oxygen plants duringCOVID-19 pandemic. His dual role involved not only technical oversight but also implementation of social and environmental safeguards demonstrating his ability to harmonize engineering excellence with globally accepted sustainability standards and stakeholder compliance. During his tenure as Superintending Engineer and later as Chief Engineer, Kashmir PHE Department, Mr. Wani spearheaded landmark initiatives such as Jal Jeevan Missionachieving early coverage of critical districts like Ganderbal and Srinagar. He conducted investigations and prepared DPRs for hundreds of water supply schemes, bringing treated piped water to areas once deemed inaccessible.  His legacy as a Hydraulics Specialist and Water Resources Engineer stands a testament to hisunwaveringcommitmenttotechnicalinnovation, sustainable development and upliftment of essential public services.
